Pride Month

June 1 - June 30

The Pride flag shown in the banner above has long been recognized as the LGBTQ Pride Month Flag in honor of the Stonewall riots and displayed as a symbol for the LGBTQ rights movement. The flag goes beyond just the overall symbol, each color signifies specific meaning (red for life, orange for healing, yellow for sunlight, green for nature , blue for harmony, and violet for spirit).

Celebrating Pride Month

Join SCPL as we highlight the LGBTQ+ community during the month of June. Pride month is an awareness campaign to celebrate the accomplishments of individuals and the community impact on society. The Library values equitable service, welcoming and safe spaces, diversity and inclusion and hope that the resources and programs will be educational and entertaining for all patrons. June was nationally chosen for Pride month to commemorate the Stonewall Riots that took place in 1969 and serve as a month to raise awareness of current issues facing the community and is now celebrated world-wide.
