Leverne McBeth was recently awarded the Friends of South Carolina Libraries’ Public Library Employee Excellence Award. This award is given to those library employees that provide innovative and/or creative ideas that have improved the efficiency and/or effectiveness of a library unit or service. Leverne was selected for this award for her focus on adult education by teaching adult computer courses for the libraries.

She was also recognized for her work in spearheading a GED program in the Pacolet community by partnering with the Adult Learning Center and for her work in launching of the Language Environment Analysis (LENA) program at the Pacolet Library. This LENA program is the first pilot location outside of the Headquarters Library to offer a 10-week classes for parents to help increase talk and encourage reading with babies 32 months and younger.

Leverne now serves as the Branch Librarian at the Middle Tyger Library and was awarded this year’s FOSCL Public Library Employee Excellence Award at a recent meeting of the Libraries’ Board of Trustees.
