POSTING DATE: September 8, 2026
JOB TITLE: Retail Store Assistant, Grade 19
LOCATION: Pages on Pine, a branch of the Spartanburg County Public Libraries
DATE AVAILABLE: October 1, 2026
SALARY: $1,588 per month (Includes some benefits)

HOURS: 25 hours per week

Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.

Last Saturday of each month from 11:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

Some flexibility in these hours is required based on coverage needs.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Shelves books by learning the proper placement of materials.
  • Assists with book donations; assists customers as needed.
  • Runs cash register and must be comfortable with financial transactions.
  • Organizes and maintains bookshelves; organizes donations before placement on shelves.
  • Keeps all areas of the stores neat and clean
  • Assists with programming at the stores as needed; troubleshoots customer issues as they arise.
  • Fill in for absent volunteers.
  • Assists with recruiting volunteers for the stores and serves as staff liaison with Friends of the Spartanburg County Public Libraries.
  • Remains aware of safety and security issues and takes appropriate action as needed.


KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions as directed by Retail Store Manager
  • Experience in retail a plus
  • Enjoy reading across genres and strong customer relations abilities
  • SCPL uses multi-factor authentication for network and program access. Employees may be required to use their personal device for MFA.
  • Driver’s license valid in the State of South Carolina with the ability to drive to other libraries
