JOB TITLE: Children's Assistant - Programming, Grade 20
LOCATION: Headquarters Library
DATE AVAILABLE: August 1, 2024
SALARY: $2,669 minimum a month (Includes generous benefits package)

HOURS: 40 hours per week

Monday 12:15am -9:15pm; Tuesday 9:15am-6:15pm; Wednesday 9:15am-6:15pm; Thursday 9:15am-6:15pm; Friday 9:15am-6:15pm (every 4thweekend rotation Saturday 8:45-6:15 pm and Sunday 12:55-6:15 pm)

(Note: Must be flexible to accommodate schedule changes may be asked to work other times)



EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with children Must complete pre-employment testing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Plans, promotes and presents creative and innovative programs that meet the needs of families and children, birth through age twelve, including storytimes, STEAM programs, and other special events and summer reading activities
  • Incorporates The Palmetto Basics and Every Child Ready to Read concepts into programs and environments for children ages birth-5
  • Tracks and submits program statistics
  • Manages the outreach schedule and assigns support where needed. Coordinates with school media specialists and community center leaders to schedule recurring outreach programs in local area schools or community centers. Actively engages the public during community outreach programs in local area schools, childcare centers, or other public spaces or special events.
  • Responsible for maintaining an attractive children’s area in the library including the Spark Space Jr. STEAM room, collections, displays, signage and bulletin boards
  • Creates and maintains updated instruction guides for technology related to children’s programming for Headquarters and for use at branches
  • Creates and maintains inventory of equipment, both those housed at Headquarters and program equipment that is sent out to all locations
  • Maintains calendar and requests for programming kits, updating forms as needed
  • Participates in department meetings, assigned committee meetings, online discussions, and book reviews
  • Provides superior customer service when assisting patrons of all ages with information and reader’s advisory requests, computers, digital devices, and other library equipment
  • Completes regular training related to children’s services and other library work
  • Remains aware of safety and security at all times
  • Substitutes for other programs, departments, and branches as needed
